I love Christmastime – lights and decorations everywhere, people abuzz with holiday spirit, crisp winter air – the city is just so much more lively and beautiful during this time of year. One of my favorite things around Christmastime is seeing coffee shops like Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks slowly bring back their annual holiday donuts and holiday-themed coffee cups. It sounds silly, I know, but I think it just adds to the festivity and holiday spirit.
I dropped by the Intervarsity meeting on campus today and they treated us with fresh coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, and other light snacks. I helped myself first to some hot chocolate from Dunkin Donuts and then to some “pike” coffee from Starbucks with hazelnut cream.
On our way out from the meeting, I turned to my friend and said with absolute certainty, “I bet you I’ll spill this on myself at some point today. I bet you.” Three hours later, getting off the bus, I got up too fast and spilled the coffee on my shirt sleeve -_- For some reason, I’m strangely only a clutz when it comes to two particular things: coffee, and toothpaste. Do you know how many shirts I’ve dirtied because I either spilled coffee or dripped toothpaste on them? They always seem to be white shirts too. I think it’s some sort of conspiracy.
The ALL detergent company must be profiting off me plenty because I can almost guarantee that every time I drink coffee, there will be a new stain to wash out by the end of the day.
Anyway, back to the Intervarsity meeting. While we normally discuss Bible passages, today we just hung out, drank coffee and ate snacks, and made Christmas cards for the children in a nearby hospital. I forgot how fun it was to make really ugly cards (I’m no artiste) with construction paper, big markers, and glue sticks like way back in elementary school. It was a fun way to do something nice to go along with the giving spirit before we split ways for winter break.
