Nude Makeup Trend

A prominent makeup trend this past spring and summer was the minimalist makeup trend, or the nude makeup trend, including the “no makeup makeup,” my lips but better lipsticks, and nude nail polishes in varying hues.

While nude colors can be light and fresh for spring and summer, they also serve as the perfect transition between the bright hues of the warmer season to the darker hues of the fall and winter season.  So today let’s talk nude nail polishes…

Clockwise from top left: Sally Hansen Velvet Texture Nail Polish in Lush, L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Last Nailcolor in Timeless Taupe, Essie Ladylike, Essie Mochacino.

For the longest time, I was obsessed with the Glamour Purse nail polish from the Essie line.  I searched high and low for it, and in my quest, stumbled upon two other nudes from the Essie line: Ladylike and Mochacino.  While neither shade was anywhere near a dupe for Glamour Purse, they are both to this day two of my favorite and most reached for nail polishes.

Essie Mochacino

Mochacino is an easy, cool, greige nude.  It’s not quite nude, and not quite gunmetal, but rather right in between.  It has a slight touch of sparkle and sheen to it, which I personally don’t mind, but I know this is not to everyone’s taste.

Essie Ladylike

Ladylike is so very aptly named, because it truly is one of the most beautiful, elegant, and chic dusty pink shades I’ve ever worn.  Every time I use it, I truly do feel sophisticated and ladylike.

L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Nailcolor in Timeless Taupe

This is the closest dupe that I have found to Essie’s Glamour Purse, so close in fact that after purchasing this nail polish from L’Oreal, I decided to no longer pursue the Glamour Purse shade. It’s the perfect taupe nude shade – not too gray, not too brown, not too light, not too dark.

Sally Hansen Velvet Texture Polish in Lush

This is the most recent addition to my nude nail polish collection.  While Lush appears to be a light taupe in the bottle, on the nails it is pure gray.  I’m still taken with it however, more because of its texture than its color.  Sally Hansen’s Velvet Texture line applies wet as with any other nail polish, but dries to a completely matte or “velvet” finish.  It’s just something different and unique to add to my collection.
