I’ve been itching to get my hands on the e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes for eons and eons, but have never justified buying two new eyeshadow palettes – albeit very affordable palettes – when my Naked eyeshadow palette more than sufficed. But when I was perusing the Christmas stock at CVS recently and noticed little pink 50% off stickers on the e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes, I caved.

e.l.f. Baked Eyeshadow Palette in Texas
Baked cosmetics are always a bit harder in texture than their non-baked counterparts. As expected, the Baked eyeshadows were harder than the Prism eyeshadows. With the Baked eyeshadows, you need several firm swipes of your eyeshadow brush before you start to see the color on your brush. With a primer, the eyeshadows have good staying power – lasting all day without creasing on my lids.
The e.l.f. Baked Eyeshadow Palette comes in 4 shades collections: Texas (pictured above), NYC, California, and Seattle. I wear a lot of shimmery bronze, gold, taupe, and other nude shadows. For my taste, the Texas palette or the California palette are the best match. The NYC palette has more dark black and brown shades, and a pink and blue shade that would not get any use in my makeup routine. Likewise, the Seattle palette has several blue and purple shades that would not get any use.
On a random note: there’s something about the dome shape of baked cosmetics that always draws me in…=)
e.l.f. Prism Eyeshadow Palette
In contrast, the e.l.f. Prism Eyeshadow palette is much softer than the Baked Eyeshadow palette. With the Prism palette, it only takes a few swipes for you to see the color on your brush tip. I find that the softer texture of the Prism eyeshadows makes them slightly easier to blend compared to the Baked eyeshadows. As with the Baked palette, with a primer, the Prism palette lasts all day without creasing.
The Prism palette comes in 3 shade collections: Naked, Sunset (pictured above), and Smoke. For my neutral shadows taste, Naked would have been the best match of the 3, but unfortunately Sunset was the only one marked down in price. Smoke consists of purples, greens, blues, and blacks – none of which would have any use in my makeup routine.
One characteristic of these palettes that drew me in from the very beginning was the lovely, sleek black packaging:
How chic for such an affordable palette!

I’ve always walked past these in Walmart/Target and wondered about them but never wanted to come up off the money for them as the drugstore is notorious for outstanding products but seriously lacking quality in the eyeshadow department.. Thanks for this review and suggestion on these. The next time I’m in the store.. I think I’ll pick this up ☺
I’ve used the baked palette several times since this post, and I’m rather surprised by the color payoff for such an affordable palette. I hope you like them too!
