Summer White: Treasure & Bond Mere Flat Slide Sandal Review

One of the items on my shopping list for this summer was a pair of white sandals. I’ve been very into the idea of keeping my closet streamlined and versatile lately, and so I wanted a pair of simple, white slides that could be paired with multiple things in my closet. I found this pair of sandals from Treasure & Bond, called the “Mere Flat Slide Sandal,” from Nordstrom, and it seemed to check all the boxes.

Fit…

I wear a size 4 in women’s shoes, and in terms of fit, it seemed to fit perfectly. The length of the shoe was just right, and the strap across the top of the foot was neither too tight nor too loose.

Comfort…

In terms of comfort, my opinion is split. I haven’t worn the shoes outside yet (SPOILER! because I’ll be returning them), but the soles seem to have a little bit of cushion. Width-wise, the strap feels fine and doesn’t rub the sides of my feet. However, when I walk, the strap hits a point on the top of my foot that feels uncomfortable. Walking around the house is tolerable, but I can imagine it becoming a problem if I try to walk long distances.

Material…

I think it’s worth noting the material in this case, considering real leather would stretch and faux leather would not, which would affect the comfort of the shoe. According to Norstrom’s site, the material is described as “textile or leather upper/leather or synthetic lining/rubber sole.” Personally, I always get confused when there are too many ors and slashes. On the shoe itself, it is described as being genuine leather, but it doesn’t feel like real leather. So what I gather is that the inside of the strap is textile, whereas the outside of the strap, which feels softer than the inside, might be the genuine leather part.

So what does this mean in terms of comfort? It means there’s a chance this shoe is not going to stretch or become any more comfortable with time since it is not 100% leather. On the other hand, there’s a chance it will break in with wear, but that’s not a chance I want to take.

Styling…

If I were to keep this pair of sandals, I could picture myself styling it with dresses, jumpsuits, light/medium wash jeans and a t-shirt, or light/medium wash denim shorts and a t-shirt. There’s a lot of versatility in my wardrobe for a pair of white sandals, so I’ll keep looking, but for now, the Mere Flat Slide Sandals from Treasure & Bond will have to be returned.
