Travel Diary: Oakland, Maine

Last week, my husband and I took a driving trip to Oakland, Maine. We stayed in a lovely lakeside cabin and spent five days visiting local attractions, hiking, eating out, and swimming. I thought I’d share some photos from our trip, as well as all the petite-friendly outfits I wore for each of the occasions.

*Since Day 1 and Day 5 were mostly driving days, I didn’t take outfit photos for either of these days.

**Everything fit true to size unless otherwise noted. For reference, my measurements are: 4’11,” 24″ waist, 28″ hips, size 4 women’s shoes, size 2 girls’ shoes.

Day 1: Heading to Maine & Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery

Most of the first day was spent in the car driving to Maine, but we also made a pit stop at McDonald’s for lunch, and had dinner at Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery.

Outfit Details

Top: AE Printed Off-the-Shoulder Smocked T-Shirt, Cream, XXS

Bottoms: H&M Shorts, old, size 2 (new size 0)

Shoes: Birkenstock Arizona Sandals, girls’ size 33 (see review here)

Day 2: A hike at Quarry Road Trail , Korner Store, & Ming Lee’s Restaurant

The first night and first morning we were there was a rainy one, so as eager as we were to jump in the lake by the cabin, we had to wait. The temperature was coolest the afternoon of Day 2, so we decided we would go for a hike as soon as the rain stopped. Cool weather = less sweat when hiking! On our way to the hiking trail, we stopped by the Korner Store for some sandwiches – literally a corner/convenience store that also offers sandwiches, burgers, pizza, etc.

Excuse my awkward posture on the right. I was bitten by many many mosquitoes, and was in the middle of bending down to scratch my leg. Bring bug spray if you plan to go hiking!

Outfit Details

Bottom: H&M Sweatshorts, Size 0

Shoes: North Face Jr Hedgehog Hikers Waterproof, Girls Size 3 (runs 1 size small)

Sports Bra: Panache Medium Impact Wire-Free Sports Bra (available in as small as band size 28!)

For dinner, we went to a Chinese restaurant called Ming Lee’s. I changed into this jumpsuit from Pull & Bear, which I did a review on here. This is the jumpsuit post-alterations.

Day 3: Colby Museum College of Art & Sheeba’s Wicked Kitchen

There’s something calming and relaxing, yet also stimulating about going to a museum. We spent a couple hours wandering around the Colby Museum College of Art before scouting out a place for lunch, then heading home for a swim in the lake.

Outfit Details

Jumpsuit: Love, Fire Belted Jumpsuit; Size XS (runs long for petite height)

Shoes: Sam Edelman Gracie Flip Flops, black, size 4

On our way home from the museum, we decided on Sheeba’s Wicked Kitchen food truck for lunch.

Day 4: Dew Haven | Maine Zoo and Rescue, Pad Thai Too, R&D Crazy Cups, & Joseph’s Fireside Steakhouse

Our last full day in Maine started off with a delicious lunch at a restaurant called Pad Thai Too, followed by a couple hours looking at the animals at a nearby petting zoo called Dew Haven. It was a pretty toasty day outside, so we decided to stop at a nearby ice cream stand that we’d driven past several times throughout the week. My “medium” ice cream cone was half the size of my face! We ended the night with dinner at Joseph’s Fireside Steakhouse.

Top: Topshop Sunshine and Rainbow Tee, Size 2

Day 5: Home sweet home

Day 5 had pretty much the same agenda, and pretty much the same outfit, as Day 1. We spent most of the day driving home, with a pit stop at the Maine mall for lunch in the food court. I basically swapped out the cream version of this top for a white version for the drive home.
