Spotted Smock Dress | ASOS Petite

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect smock dress since the beginning of fall 2019. For months I’ve seen several floral options pop up here and there, but I’m not much of a floral gal. My favorite prints are polka dots or smudgy spots. I’ve been eyeing this spotted smock dress from ASOS since it was first available, and finally snatched it up when it went on sale for $14.50! What a steal!

Eeeeek I LOVE this dress! The short, smocked shape is girly and feminine, but the smudgy dot print is a bit less feminine than a floral print – a perfect balance! Originally, I had planned to wear this dress with a pair of black biker ankle boots, but I decided to go with OTK boots, and I love how it turned out!

ASOS is one of those brands whose small sizes are actually small. If you’re on the thinner end of petite like I am, you know what I mean. You order a size XS from a site, and when it arrives, you honestly wonder if they sent you the wrong size. The length and sleeves on this dress actually hit me where they were supposed to, which was delightful.

One thing to note is that the neckline dips rather low on this dress. My bra is juuuust on the verge of peaking out. Being 4’11”, most people are taller than I am. Therefore if you’re large chested like I am, there is definite potential for people to see down the dress a bit.

However, despite a little cleavage, I was pleased to find that this dress was flattering on my top-heavy frame. I normally gear towards a cinched-waist-flared-hip silhouette to balance out my large chest. I was hesitant that this smocked shape, which flares from the chest, would make me look ginormous.
