I Tried Amazon Fashion for the First Time | Petite Review

Amazon is slowly but surely conquering the world. When it comes to fashion, where sizing and fit are so individualized, can Amazon still conquer?

A few days ago, I decided to dip my toe into the world of Amazon fashion. I ordered a couple tops, in the hopes that I could mix and match them with pants and skirts for work.

Romwe Polka Dot Peplum Blouse, Size XS

Design & Quality

I LOVE polka dots and smudgy dots, and the print on this top spoke to my heart. In person, the print doesn’t disappoint. In terms of quality, my expectations weren’t high to start, considering both Amazon and Romwe are known for bargain prices. This top is a very thin, slippery – and to be frank, cheap – polyester material. You get what you pay for! It was exactly what I was expecting, so it didn’t exactly disappoint.

Sizing & Fit

Although this top was not available in petite sizing, the fit in my usual XS wasn’t too shabby. I prefer my tops to be between 21″-23″, which is about hip length on me. The description lists this top as 22.5″, and the length was a perfect fit. However, the sleeve length, which is listed as 24″, went past my fingers.

Versatility/Wearability

This past year, I’ve tried really hard to build a more cohesive wardrobe. Items need to work as part of more than one outfit. I was happy with how this top looked with pants, but I struggled to tuck the top into a skirt. I move around a lot during the work day, and I just know this top won’t stay tucked in a skirt. On the other hand, I can see myself wearing this top with black pants for work, or with jeans casually. At the moment, I’m undecided whether or not I’ll be keeping this top.

Allegra K Elegant Dot Peplum Blouse, Size XS (I cleaned my mirror before this photo was taken. I clearly should have waited for it to dry…)

Design & Quality

Similar to the Romwe top, this top has a larger smudgy dot print. Again, in person, the print doesn’t disappoint. Both tops are peplum tops, but the Allegra top is meant to be more fitted. The design of the closure mechanism is a bit…odd. There are 3 buttons, followed by a 2 inch zipper section at the waist, and nothing from the waist down. Call me lazy, but these 3 buttons are a lot of work! As with the Romwe top, this Allegra K top felt like cheap polyester. In the picture below, you can tell one of the buttons is already almost falling off.

Sizing & Fit

Unfortunately, this top was not that flattering on me. The two main problem areas were the bust and sleeves. I have a larger bust for my frame, and often struggle with tops being too small for my bust. This top was so roomy in the bust area, I could have fit 2 to 3 more boobs in there. The sleeves weren’t as long as the Romwe top, mainly because it cinches at the wrist, which keeps the sleeves from falling too far down. That being said, it’s still a tad long, so this top isn’t a keeper.

Overall Thoughts…

Amazon is great at providing you a variety of options. In addition to their own brand, they bring together and expose you to different brands that you otherwise might not discover. Sizing can be hit or miss. With so many different brands offered, an XS for one brand can be very different than an XS for another. Again, you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t utilize Amazon for quality clothing, but more for variety and options, and for super fast shipping!

  1. This is actually very interesting! I’ve been considering ordering some things from Amazon fashion but get concerned about the quality. This is making me think I should try to stick with the more reputable brands when I’m ordering from there so I don’t lose out on quality for the price!

    1. Thank you!! Amazon wouldn’t be the first place I look for quality pieces, and the pieces I chose were not quality brands, but I wonder if Amazon offers higher quality brands as well. Maybe it’s something I’ll look into in the future! Thanks for reading!

      1. I found your article very interesting, I would never have thought of buying from Amazon as like you said you get what you pay for but I’m very petite and I clock in at 4’11” so very hard to find good quality petite range of fashionable on trend clothes. I am based in Ireland and love reading your blog.

        1. Thank you so much! It’s lovely to meet a fellow petite. I’m 4’11” as well, so I completely understand your struggle! I hope FunSizeFit continues to be a helpful resource!
