My style has certainly changed in the past 10 years. I was a late bloomer in terms of discovering my personal style. I didn’t really get a feel for what my personal style was until I was in college! A mix of trial and errors, life experiences, and age have all contributed to molding and adapting my style over time.
Age is the one factor that most recently affected my style. So far this year, every day I’m finding more and more items in my closet that suddenly seem too short for my age. These aren’t items that I haven’t worn since high school. These are items that I was wearing just last year in 2019 – a mere 5 months ago!
Some time in the last 5 months, a switch flipped in my brain. Maybe it was when I turned 28 earlier this year. Maybe my brain was trying to tell me that I’m almost pushing 30, and my hemlines need to come down.
Take this dress, for example. I bought this dress a few years ago, and always felt it was a little too roomy and a little too long. When I was decluttering my closet last year, I set it aside to be tailored. This past Monday, I had the urge to wear something different to work, and decided to try this dress on again. And whaddaya know. Suddenly the dress didn’t seem too long anymore.
I’m neither sad nor happy about the effect age has had on my style and taste. The only thing I do wish is that there was a magical way to add the length back to items I had shortened in the past!
