Places to Visit in South Shore MA: Blue-Eyed Crab & Bay Farm Trail

What have you been up to so far this weekend? We’ve had THE BEST weather all week, and I really wanted to top it off with something outdoors this weekend before the temperatures drop and we see some thunderstorms next week. We went for a little nature walk at Bay Farm Trail and stopped by a place called Blue-Eyed Crab after for lunch. I wanted to share some pictures from our day, in case you’re in the area, and looking for places to visit in South Shore MA!

I was actually researching myself for places to visit in MA, and came across a suggestion for a place called Bay Farm Conservation Area. Reviews online said the place was supposed to be huge, with meadows, woodlands, wetlands, wildlife, etc. As a bonus, it was also free admission and limited onsite parking.

Sweater: H&M, size XXS
Jeans: Abercrombie, old, size 23W
Shoes: Tieks (see my review here)

To say the place was huge is probably an understatement. We weren’t in a rush to see everything, and we did stop for photos, but we were still there for a couple hours and barely made it through just the meadows! That was the great thing about this place – it was so vast that you barely crossed paths with anyone. I felt like we had a lot of peace and quiet, and privacy despite it being a public place.

One thing I would recommend is to wear shoes you won’t mind getting dirty. Although it had been beautiful, sunny weather all week with zero rain, a few spots were still quite muddy and wet.

Blue-Eyed Crab

We spent a couple hours at Bay Farm, and then popped over to the nearby town of Plymouth for lunch at Blue-Eyed Crab. Plymouth is one of the coastal towns in Massachusetts, so it has a very pretty, beachy, touristy feel to it. They have both outdoor and indoor dining, but it was a little breezy yesterday, so we opted for indoor seating. It’s a fairly small restaurant on the inside, but as it’s not peak vacation season, it wasn’t crowded when we went, despite it being a Saturday. We went for Crispy Crab Cakes for an appetizer, and Cajun Mahi Tacos and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich for entrees. For the heck of it, I threw in a No Mai Tai (non-alcoholic Mai Tai).

Overall Thoughts

So overall I would say I recommend Bay Farm Conservation Area if you’re looking for a place to take a nature walk that’s large, quiet, and private. I would recommend Blue-Eyed Crab (or really that area in general, because there are SO many shops and restaurants around) if you like the coastal atmosphere. As with any tourist attraction, if you don’t like crowded places, I would go during the off-season. It’s a little tough to get parking in that area, and you might end up having to do street/meter parking, even more so if you go during peak vacation season. If you like photography, both places would also be great for taking pictures. At Bay Farm, you can take your time getting the shots you want, because it’s not crowded. The area around Blue-Eyed Crab is more crowded in comparison, but there are a lot of spots that would make an excellent background for a photo.
