This series of travel posts is taking longer to complete than I anticipated. We went on a 4 day trip to Connecticut a month ago now, and with so many pictures to share, I had decided to dedicate one blog post to each day of the trip. If everything had gone according to plan, I would have written about day 2 two weekends ago, day 3 last weekend, and you would be reading about day 4 now.
Instead, I started not feeling well the Wednesday after my last post (March 27), but powered through the rest of the work week, only to get progressively worse over that weekend, at which point I went to urgent care and found out I had a virus. It knocked me out all weekend, Monday, and Tuesday. That Wednesday, I was able to sit up for the first time in four days, and went back to work. As I’m writing this today, I’m still not 100%, but I’m hopefully getting there soon! In the meantime, let’s talk about day 2 of the trip!
For our first full day in Connecticut, I went with a casual and comfy outfit – a thin sweater, faux leather leggings, and slip-on sneakers. It was still pretty cold out at the beginning of March, so I threw on an olive green puffer before heading out.
We started the day visiting the Olde Mystic Village Shoppes, around the corner from our hotel. In one of the shops, we were happily surprised to find an entire corner dedicated to Studio Ghibli. We love the Ghibli movies! We bought a book of artwork from Spirited Away, which now sits happily on my coffee table for everyone to enjoy.
After shopping, we had lunch at Mango’s Wood-Fired Pizza Co. in the village. The pizza was decent – not the most amazing pizza I’ve had, but certainly not bad either, and the service was good.
Next door to the village was the Mystic Aquarium, where we spent the next couple hours after lunch. Although the aquarium was on the smaller side, there were still some cool animals to see, and they had a couple interactive exhibits where you could reach in the tank and touch the animals. Here are some pictures I snapped of my favorite exhibits:
Later that night, we had dinner at the S&P Oyster Restaurant & Bar. I had the pan seared sea scallop pasta, while my husband had the seafood squid ink pasta. Both were delicious, but if we were ever to visit again, I think I’d order the seafood squid ink pasta because it was tasty, but also so different from anything I’ve ever had.
We headed back to the hotel after dinner, and decided to check out the hotel’s gym. This was our first time ever checking out the gym in a hotel we were staying in, or rather our first time checking out a gym, period. My husband and I aren’t gym goers, but over the past year, we’ve been doing exercises at home, and we’ve been pretty consistent with it, so we thought we should keep up the good work and use the hotel gym while we were away from home.
After our gym session, we pretty much went back to our hotel room and called it a night.
I hope you enjoyed reading about day 2 of the trip and seeing my road trip outfit and the pictures from the Mystic Aquarium! Stay tuned for day 3! If you missed day 1, you can read about it here.
