a weekend in California | wedding guest outfit & places to eat

I really didn’t expect my next blog post to be another travel post, but here we are. The last few weeks have been a blur of not feeling well, working, planning what to pack in my downtime, and then of course, the trip itself. A couple weeks ago, I flew out to California for the weekend for my cousin’s wedding. I worked all the way through the Thursday leading up to it, woke up at 3 am on Friday to catch my flight, stayed in California for the weekend, woke up at 3 am on Sunday to fly back home, and went back to work on Monday. To say I was tired is an understatement. Now that I’ve settled back into my regular routine, I wanted to share my wedding guest outfit and places to eat from my trip!

We landed at SFO around midmorning, and much of the next few hours were spent leaving the airport, finding something to eat for lunch, and settling into our hotel room at Nobu.

Later that evening, we attended a rehearsal dinner at Sundance The Steakhouse. For my entrée, I went with the lobster tail with a side of rice and broccoli.

Saturday morning, we decided to sleep in to make up for the three hours of sleep the night before. The wedding wasn’t until the afternoon, so we did some exploring around the hotel in the morning. We walked to Sweet Maple, where I ate one of the most beautiful looking breakfasts I’ve ever seen.

For my breakfast, I went with the matcha moffle, which their site describes as a “matcha mochi waffle, signature matcha lava.” I’m normally not a waffles or breakfast person in general, but I’ve yet to dislike something matcha flavored, and apparently that includes waffles. Then after brunch, we walked to Bober Tea for some refreshments and dessert.

For the sake of not having my makeup melt before the wedding, I ventured out to brunch with only eyebrows filled in and a bare face. From closeup, the lack of sleep from flying in early the day before was undeniable. I packed this casual outfit in case we had some downtime while we were there. The dress is from H&M’s 2023 summer collection (similar here), and the sandals are the Bay Slide sandals from Sam Edelman.

Bubble teas and donuts in hand, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the wedding. I have three weddings to attend this year, and with this first one, time got the best of me. Rather than buying a dress I didn’t love just for the sake of having something new to wear to the wedding, I decided to wear what was in my closet. I bought this dress for a wedding 7 years ago, and these shoes are my own wedding shoes from almost 6 years ago!

We had a couple hours in between the ceremony and the reception, so we went back to the hotel to relax and freshen up before the reception later that evening. For the reception, we had our choice between a couple appetizers, entrees, and desserts.

I chose a vegetable macedoine and soft boiled egg as my appetizer, duck breast as my entrée, and a profiterole with coffee ice cream and chocolate hazelnut sauce.

The reception lasted much later than we thought, and it was about midnight when we rolled into bed. Three hours later, we were up and about, getting ready to embark on the journey home.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my wedding guest outfit and the pictures of all the amazing food. I think getting to eat different foods is one of the best things about traveling!
