Lip Product Mini Haul: L’Oreal Lipsticks & Maybelline Elixir

I’ve been on a lipstick/lip gloss kick lately.  Not too long ago, I picked up 2 lipsticks and 1 lip gloss from my CVS to try out.

Lipstick Haul

From left to right, I tried L’Oreal Colour Riche Collection Exclusive (also called Privee Collection?) in Eva’s nude, L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipcolour in Peach Fuzz, and Maybelline Color Elixir in Breathtaking Apricot.

To be honest, I really hated the lipsticks, as much as I really wanted to like them.  The packaging was elegant and luxurious  – they looked like real adult lipsticks, and not something a teeny bopper would be interested in (nothing wrong with that, but I’m a bit past the age to be perusing the Smackers collection).  But oh my dear good gracious me did they smell awful.  They had that awful plasticy/waxy smell, and as much as I tried to ignore it, it was so nauseating that I knew I wouldn’t wear them enough to get my money’s worth, so  back to the store they went =(  Oddly enough, my boyfriend and his friend both smelled it and simply said that it “just smells like lipstick,” as if it were no big deal.  How could I be more repulsed by the smell of a lipstick than they were?  I should also mention that in the short time that I had them, they didn’t seem to be all that moisturizing, especially not the L’Oreal Colour Riche Lipcolour.

Maybelline Color Elixir

The Maybelline Color Elixir I kept.  Is it my favorite product in the world?  No.  Is it pretty, moisturizing, and would I use it fairly often?  Yes.  The only reason – and I repeat the only reason – it’s not my favorite product is that when you go to apply it, it feels like there is waaayyy too much product on the wand, even after scraping some off on the rim of the tube of lip gloss.  This may not be a con for everyone.  Some people may like that the wand carries a lot of gloss.  I personally felt like my lips were drowning in gloss, which I didn’t particularly like.  However, it’s a pretty pink color, it’s moisturizing, and the packaging resembles a lipstick – pretty, elegant, and more adult-looking than the typical tube of lip gloss you would’ve bought in high school.
