Mark the Day People. I Passed My Road Test!

:0    That’s the shape my mouth is making as I exhale a breath of air that I’ve been holding in for about 3 months now.  In fact, I may be exhaling this sigh of relief for a very long time – so long that perhaps my mouth may be forever wired to gape open as if in permanent shock.  Boy would that be awkward.

This lengthy sigh of relief began yesterday morning, when I heard the magical words “you passed” after my road test.  Do you smell that?  That’s the smell of independence, baby.  One less thing that I need to depend on others for.

Getting my license is great in terms of mobility and independence.  But it is a challenging feat.  I mean, have you ever seen a petite person try to drive?  Let me give you an idea of what it’s like:

  • Being a little under 4’11”, I sit on two pillows when I drive so that I can see over the steering wheel.
  • The first thing I do when I get in the car is pull the seat all the way up to the steering wheel, because my feet can’t reach the pedals.
  • And my left foot…it just dangles

When you’re short, driving is an amusing task.

  1. I felt proud of myself after so many fails. I told the instructor on my last test that I would give up if I failed again. That did the trick. No more pressure to pass and I was more relaxed. Thanks. 🙂

    1. Thanks Christine! And wow I have to give you major credit for doing it 7 times. This was my second try and I already felt discouraged, congrats to you for not giving up! Thanks so much for reading and for the follow =)

    1. Thanks a lot! It really was a beautiful feeling to finally get my license and not have the pressure hovering over my head anymore – my permit was going to expire at the end of this year!
