One of the trickiest times to dress for during the year is that transitioning period between winter and spring. Putting on too many layers looks overdressed, but wearing a full-on summer outfit can be a bit chilly. The same goes for shoes. Boots start to look a little much, but sandals leave your toes feeling cold and looking purple.
One of my go-to outfits for transitioning between winter and spring has been a light cotton turtleneck top, skinny black pants, and a pair of flat mules. A cotton turtleneck is perfect for transitioning because the high neck will keep you warm, but the light cotton material (as opposed to a turtleneck sweater) will keep you cool at the same time. If it gets breezier at night, I would throw a thin black jacket over the top.
If there was one style of shoe that I loved as a kid, it was clogs. Mules are like the cousin of the clog. The pattern and fur on these mules was very different for me, very unlike anything else in my shoe collection. My fiance gifted these to me, and I’m actually really fond of them!
The moment I slipped these mules on with a pair of black skinny pants cuffed up to ankle length, it clicked.
As minute as this detail may seem, I recommend cuffing the bottom of the pants to ankle length. When I uncuff the bottoms to their natural length, the look just isn’t quite as chic…can’t put my finger on why that is.
It’s amazing to me how I grew to love something that I never would have thought to pick out for myself.
Have you ever tried anything that was very different to your style? What are your thoughts on mules? Let me know in the comments down below.
