In my head, it never feels that long in between blog posts. It’s not until I get the itch to write again that I look at my published posts and realize the last one was over two months ago. It’s been a busy but lovely couple months, so let’s backtrack to the end of June and early July when we were celebrating both the wedding of a close friend and our own wedding anniversary.
the bachelor party
My husband’s best friend since third grade tied the knot on Sunday, June 23rd, and with all the duties that come with being the best man, we had a long couple weeks leading up to the wedding. For the bachelor party, the plan was for all the guys to do an escape room for the first half, then gather at our place for a cookout for the second half. So we spent the weeks leading up to the bachelor party cleaning the house, planning the types of food and how much food, and of course buying the actual grill for the cookout. We had been toying with the idea of buying a grill, but hadn’t gotten around to it, so the bachelor party was the perfect opportunity to go for it.
The Saturday before the wedding, we had the wedding rehearsal midmorning, followed by lunch at a seafood restaurant on the water.
After lunch, we headed back to the house and started prepping the food for the cookout, and then the guys went to do the escape room. When they came back, we had a cookout with burgers, hot dogs, sausages, chicken wings, and corn.
the wedding & the petite wedding guest dress
The next day, we had the wedding. In my last post from May, which was also a wedding guest post, I had said that time had gotten the best of me, and I ended up wearing an old dress and my own wedding shoes to the ceremony. Knowing I had this wedding coming up in two months, I continued to dress shop so I’d have ample time to find something to wear. Yet somehow my efforts were fruitless, and I found myself still without a dress three days before the wedding. Since I had the day off from work for Juneteenth, I decided to make one last ditch effort and head to the mall.
Being petite and on the thinner side, I generally don’t have high hopes for finding my sizes in a brick and mortar store. Casual clothes are a bit easier to find in a store, but a formal and petite wedding guest dress I imagined would be near impossible. I struck out in a few stores, and decided to make one last stop at Macy’s before heading home. Lo and behold, I found not one, but two dresses that fit off the rack (one green and one blue)! For this wedding, I went with the green dress to match my husband’s gray suit/green tie combo.
The dress is from a brand called B Darlin, and is part of their junior range. On their website, there’s a size XXS available, but the letters to numbers size conversion in the product details section only mentions a size XS. In the store, there was only size XS available, so that’s what I went with. On the model, the dress is about 3/4 length, but as I’m petite (4’11”), the dress was floor length on me with 4″ heels (YSL Tribute sandals pictured in my last post).
I was extremely comfortable in both the dress and shoes for the entire ceremony, reception, and the impromptu after party. One of my husband’s friends had flown in from out of state for the wedding, and the whole lot of us went out for oysters and ice cream after the reception. It was a great time in good company!
our wedding anniversary
Fast forward one week and it was our turn to celebrate. This year we celebrated our six year wedding anniversary! We had lunch at a restaurant by the water, then took a walk along on the jetty.
My husband had a voucher for the escape room from the bachelor party, since one of the guys couldn’t make it, and we thought it would be fun for us to try one together. So after lunch, we completely switched gears and went to the escape room, and successfully solved our way out! We then topped off the day with a bit of jewelry shopping, as my husband wanted to treat me to a special ring for our anniversary.
So that was my June and July. I hope you enjoyed reading about and seeing pictures from the wedding and our anniversary; and for any petite readers, I hope you found my quick review of the petite-friendly wedding guest dress helpful! Stay tuned for what’s most likely going to be another travel post coming soon!
