Oh how a break was needed. It’s been four months since my last vacation, and my brain was craving some time off to reset. The start of the new year is our busy season at work, and as such, we were encouraged to save our PTO requests until after the first quarter. But I could feel my mental energy dwindling as the months went by, so I put in my PTO request for literally the first week of the second quarter.
For the most part, we once again spent most of our vacation at home. (If you missed my last vacation post and fancy giving it a read, you can find it here).
finding wall art
We started the week by visiting a frame shop with a large map and a small painting we recently bought to hang on our walls. I’ve enjoyed interior decorating for a long time now, but every day I feel like I learn or realize something new – like how much empty wall space we have. It’s one of those things I didn’t really notice because I was so used to seeing the rooms as they were, but now that I’ve noticed them, I can’t un-notice them. So we’re starting to put some energy towards finding things we love to fill our walls.
building a fire pit
That was interior decorating. Now for…exterior decorating? Is that a thing?
We had a fire in our backyard recently and realized that our fire pit, which was left behind by the previous owners of our house, was quite worn and falling apart. We briefly thought about buying a new one until my husband suggested the idea of building our own out of bricks, and we were both sold on the idea. One large order of supplies later and we had our pit:

Provincetown, MA

Towards the middle of the week, we took a day trip to Provincetown, MA. I want to say the last time we visited Provincetown was several years ago in October, and I remember it being a touristy town with a lot of cute shops to visit, but it was also cold and raining. This time, we wanted to make sure we picked a nice sunny day to visit. What we didn’t realize was that most of the shops don’t open until summer.

The restaurants were still open though, and we had a tasty lunch at Fanizzi’s by the water (the view was beautiful from the dining area!). We had the fresh fried shrimp appetizer to share, I had the fried clam roll, and my husband had the fried sea scallops.

hiking

Leggings: Zella by Nordstrom, XXS
Bag: Uniqlo
To be honest, the weather was pretty crummy most of the week, which is a little disappointing when you’re on vacation! On Friday, we finally had nice weather, so we went out for lunch and to go on a hike.

We went to a Chinese restaurant where we had fried calamari, Singapore noodles, fried rice, and char siu pork to share. Oh, and I had a strawberry coolada!

Maine
To wrap up the week, on Sunday we drove to Maine to visit my sister-in-law and her family. Given it’s a two hour drive without stops, we were hoping to visit her at the start of vacation and have time after to recuperate, but it was snowing both where she was and where we were that weekend, so we had to postpone it until the end of vacation.
I didn’t take any pictures the day of the trip since we just spent the day at her house eating and catching up, but it was just really nice to spend some quality time in good company.
I’m now back to work for the next few months until our next vacation in July. Until then, I’m still hoping to blog a bit more regularly – just about every day life and sharing the outfits I’ve worn to places – but I’d be lying if I said it isn’t challenging to find time to write and edit these posts. If you blog regularly, let me know how you balance working, doing other things you need to do on your days off, and blogging!
