You Travel, I Eat

Some may call me simple.  Some may call me boring.  And I’m good with that.

We had a slow day at work yesterday, and my co-workers and I were just standing around chit-chatting.  They started talking about the towns they live in and what there is to do for fun in their respective towns and what good places there are to eat.  This led to a conversation about Outback Steakhouse, and how ironic it is that there are Outbacks in Australia because why would you want Americanized Australian food when you’re in Australia?  (Beats me.  Up until this point, I didn’t even know what an Outback was, not to mention that they serve Americanized Australian food.  I live under a rock.)  This conversation then led to questions about how my co-worker would know that there are Outbacks in Australia.

That led to a conversation about how he studied abroad in Australia for 6 months, and all the scuba diving and snorkeling that he did while he was there.  Then my other co-worker chimes in about how she went scuba diving in the Great Blue Hole.  (Me: “What hole??”)

As I’m standing there listening to them share their adventure stories, I realize that I haven’t done half as much as they have.  Maybe not even a hundredth.  Now some may say that’s a boring way to live.  But personally, I don’t find joy as many others do in traveling or doing adventurous things like scuba diving and snorkeling.  So if I’m not doing something that doesn’t give me joy, then I don’t think that’s boring at all!

To me, what I find joy in is eating in all week long and then getting treated to dinner out once a week at the end of the week.  It gives me something to look forward to.  I’ll be at work thinking about where I want to go, what I want to wear, what I want to eat, what I want to drink.  I’ll go home, kick off the sneakers, pop on some jeans and heels, and continue to look forward to going out to a restaurant for dinner for a change.  I’ll drool over the thought of

and

and so. many. other. foods!

And that is precisely what I’ve been up to for the past 2.5 weeks since my last post.  Between work and babysitting and getting things in place for fall semester, there hasn’t been time left to do much else.  I’ve only had these dinners to look forward to every week, and that’s good enough for me =)
