I Spent My Saturday Scratching Alaska, What Did You Do?

I’m not one for traveling, but I have a sister who is, and we recently welcomed a scratch-off world map into our home…or into my sister’s bedroom to be exact.  As a person who is geographically challenged, I spent a good amount of time marveling at where everything was in the world – WHAT?  ALASKA ISN’T ATTACHED TO THE REST OF THE US?!?  Just kidding!  But I am geographically challenged in all other regards.

I’m not sure which one we purchased exactly, but I’m 99% sure it’s this one:

The world is initially covered in gold, but with the help of your trusty penny, you can scratch off all the places you’ve been to, you travel guru, and the gold flakes off to reveal a world of blues and greens underneath.  The downside is individual cities aren’t outlined on top of the gold covering, so you have to estimate where the city is and hope you’re scratching off the right thing.  If you’re into traveling, I’d recommend purchasing something like this; I think it’s a great way to decorate your room in a way that highlights your interests at the same time.

As I mentioned, I myself am not much of a travel person, but I like to think that I travel the world through guitars.  “Huh?!?” you say?  Well, when my sister, who loves to travel, goes anywhere, whether it be a different country or a different city within the country, I always receive a Hard Rock Cafe guitar pin from that country or city as a souvenir.
2From the top left going down and then the top right going down, you’ve got:

1) Rome
2) London
3) Florence
4) Sydney
5) Bahamas (This one I actually bought myself!)
6) Paris
7) Madrid
8) Orlando
9) Venice
10) Barcelona

As you can see, my collection is slowly growing, and it’s one of my favorite possessions.  Likewise, the scratch-off map is probably one of my sibling’s favorite travel-related possession.

Since I tend to sleep through half my weekends, I woke up around noon, spent some time scratching off and unveiling Alaska, then started getting ready for Easter Vigil.  So…other than attending mass, I basically spent my Saturday scratching Alaska.  How was your weekend?

    1. You should definitely get one for yourself! If you Google it, there are a handful of options that pop up, in various sizes. Let me know if you need help finding one. Thanks for comment!
