One of the biggest fashion struggles for a petite is finding work wear that fits and looks professional. Over the years, I’ve scoured through shopping sites from all ends of the style spectrum – casual, formal, trendy, classic – in search of a new resource for petite clothing to add to my repertoire. Sometimes the most casual of stores carry the best hidden gems.
One of my resources for petite work tops is, believe it or not, American Eagle. Recently, I sifted through their clearance section and found a number of tops I wanted to add to my wardrobe and I ordered them all. My wallet cried a little. So let’s get on to the haul!
AEO SOFT & SEXY FLUTTER STRAP CROP TANK
Size: XXS
True to its name, this top felt so soft, fluttery, and pretty on. The fluttery sleeves were such a feminine detail. The top fit true to size, and the length was perfect, hitting right at the hip bone, creating a longer and leaner body shape.
I have worn this top since purchasing it, and the only con I have noticed so far is that even though I had not put it through the wash yet, the top seemed to look faded and grayed as if I had put it through the washer and dryer. This makes me worry about the longevity of the top and what it will look like after it does go through the wash.
AEO FLUTTER SLEEVE TANK
Size: XXS
If you haven’t already noticed, the running theme is flutter sleeves. This is yet another flutter sleeve top in knitted, sweater-like material. I really needed to add to my collection of work tops for the summer, and was worried that the knit material of this top would make it impractical in the warmer months. After wearing this top a couple times, I find that it works just fine in hot temperatures because it is essentially sleeveless and the knitwork is not tightly woven, leaving little holes in between the threads for your skin to breathe.
This top also fit TTS, and unlike the previous top, has not shown any signs of wearing out or fading.
AEO FLOUNCE TANK TOP
Size: XXS
I loved this top the moment I saw it. I was smitten with the dusty pink color, the dainty floral pattern, the feminine fluttery ruffle neckline… The moment I saw this top, I knew I would be the perfect match for my the brown ankle trousers in my closet.
This top fit true to size. The inner layer fits snugly, while the outer layer is meant to be more flowy and drapey.
AERIE RUFFLE SLEEVE SWEATSHIRT
Size: XXS
I’ve been on a white tops buying binge lately, and when I saw this white sweater with fluttery bell sleeves, I was immediately sold. It’s far too hot right now to wear this sweater, but I’m excited to get a lot of use out of this sweater come fall.
The fit was true to size, with an easy, relaxed fit that will be easy and cozy to throw on in the fall months.
AERIE OFF-THE-SHOULDER FRINGE TOP
Size: XXS
I’ve seen bardot tops in breezy, summery fabrics on so many of my favorite YouTubers and fashion bloggers lately, and was in search of one that I could add to my own wardrobe. If you read my last post, which was an ASOS haul, you’ll know that I talked about how bardot tops tend to exaggerate top heaviness, which unfortunately was the case for me. As I am rather top heavy for my petite frame, the bardot top goes over my bust and then balloons out, making the top half of my body look much larger than it actually is.
As of writing this post, I have already sent this top back to Aerie.
