Braving the Holiday Shopping: Forever 21 Shearling-Inspired Sweater Coat

Going shopping on the weekend is terrible.  Going shopping on the weekend during the holiday season is even worse.  But I’ve been dying to pay a visit to Primark and my sister needed an ugly Christmas sweater for work, so we decided to brave the holiday-induced chaos and head to the mall on a Saturday.  Among many other things, I picked up this coat that I’ve been obsessed with (ironically not from Primark, which was my whole reason for going to the mall.  I ended up buying socks from Primark 😂).

I’ve been on a coats kick lately (I usually focus more on the outfit underneath rather than the outerwear), and have been looking for different styles and colors to add to my coat wardrobe.  This shearling-inspired sweater coat is different from any other coat in my closet.  There was something about the cozy shapelessness of it that really drew me in.

In terms of fit…

There was a mannequin on display wearing the same coat in a light pink and white color, and on the mannequin the coat went past the butt to around the mid-thigh area.  For reference, I’m 4’11”, and the coat seemed to hit me at the same place it did on the mannequin, so I’d say this coat is definitely petite-friendly.  Along those lines, I usually struggle with coat sleeves being too long on me, but the sleeves on this coat fit me just fine.  As it’s a more relaxed fit and it does not zip/button, there’s ample room for layering.  In the picture above, I have it paired with only a tank top underneath, but in the picture below, I have it paired with a very chunky cable knit sweater and the coat didn’t feel too snug at all.

In terms of warmth…

Paired with a chunky sweater like the one pictured above, this jacket can be decently warm.  I wore this on a windy 30s degree day, going out for lunch with my husband, my sister, and her husband, and felt just fine (my legs were actually colder than my upper body!).  I didn’t spend too much time outside – maybe a 5 minute walk between the car and the restaurant – so you may or may not feel colder if you plan to wear this jacket out for longer periods of time.

I’m excited to play around with different ways to style this coat, but I’m really liking my first go at it with all basic, classic colors – black, cream, and brown with a touch of light pink.

Hope you enjoyed this post!  Stay tuned for future posts featuring other things from my haul that day!
