Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021

Happy New Year everyone! I don’t know whether to breathe a sigh of relief or to continue holding my breath as I reflect on the past year and look ahead to the future. I’m not one to make new year’s resolutions, and in fact, this year I’m doing the opposite.

I’ve wanted to make some career moves for quite some time now. I’m fortunate enough to have a full time job that’s stable and pays well. But for a while now, I’ve been yearning to change my area of practice for a handful of reasons. Every year in the past, I tell myself that this will be the year. This will be the year I find the right opportunity and make the change. But when December comes around, and I haven’t found the right opportunity, I find myself feeling disappointed and discouraged. This year, I’m not setting a deadline for myself. I’m going to keep scouting, but I’m not going to be disappointed if it doesn’t happen this year.

My husband and I were planning on looking at houses in 2020. At the start of 2020, I thought that by this time, we would have found our new home, and would be putting in offers. As of right now, we haven’t looked at a single house. And the housing market has been so affected by everything that’s going on, that we’re not sure when we’ll be able to start looking or what the process looks like now.

I would love to find a new place this year, but as with my career, I’m going to try not to put a deadline on it. We bought our current house, and it’s a good starter house for us, but it was our first time buying. Now having owned a place, we know what we like and don’t like, and we can make an even better choice next time. I know it’s going to take time to find the perfect place, so I don’t want to rush.

So I guess my overall approach to 2021 is to continue to work towards my goals, but without a specific deadline. I’m not going to set myself up to be in a negative headspace at the end of the year.

What are your new year’s resolutions for 2021?

. . . .

Thanks for reading!
