It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to sit down and write a blog post, and for good reason. I recently started a new job, and since then I’ve been trying to get situated and settle into a new routine. Before I dive deeper into this blog post, let’s pause and rewind to 7 years ago, when I started my first job after graduating college. For my first job, I had to go into the workplace, and I would be on my feet for up to 12 hours a day. So every day, I would do my hair and makeup, and get dressed in professional attire to go to work.
Fast forward several years and I started a new job, where I worked from home (WFH) most days, but occasionally was required to go into the workplace. When I started that job, I told myself I would still do my hair and makeup in the morning, and I would still get dressed for work. To be honest, that didn’t last long. I’m a habitual snoozer – always have been, and I quickly gave into hitting the snooze button every morning instead of getting up and getting ready. I would wake up with just enough time to grab a cup of coffee, then work in my pajamas.
Now here’s the crazy thing – I’m well aware that I don’t feel my best when I don’t get ready in the morning, and that I don’t feel as productive as a result. I don’t enjoy that feeling, and yet the temptation to snooze in the morning was so strong that it would win every time.
But This Time…
So now we’re at the current day and time, and I’ve started a new job that’s 100% WFH. Although this means I don’t ever have to get up early and get dressed, I was determined this time! It’s been several weeks, and so far I’ve committed to waking up early every morning, doing my hair and makeup, and getting dressed to WFH. (Most days I just wear leggings and a cozy sweater, but my goal is to simply change out of my pajamas.)
I’m not going to lie – I’m always SO sleepy while I’m doing it, and the entire time I think about how much I’d rather crawl back into bed than continue to get ready. However, as the day progresses and my brain wakes up, I always feel glad that I did it. The best part is that when I change back into my pajamas at night, I physically feel like I’m switching off for the night, and it’s a very cozy and relaxing feeling.
Do you WFH? Do you still get up and get dressed to WFH? If you don’t WFH, what do you think your preference would be? Would you still get up and get dressed?
