It’s been a week to remember, and I’d be remiss not to document it in every way possible, including in a blog post. My husband and I took a week off work this past week, and went on our first vacation since December 2022.
We went on a three days, three nights road trip to Connecticut, which started last Sunday. After eating lunch at home in an attempt to clear out some of the leftovers in our fridge, we dropped Grandpaw (our cat) off at my mom’s, then we hit the road. We spent two-thirds of our trip in Mystic, CT and a third in Hartford, CT. I took so many pictures and have so much to share about our trip that I’m going to split each day into a separate blog post and share them over the next couple weeks!
We drove back home on Wednesday, picked up Grandpaw, and just took it easy for the rest of the night.
Thursday morning, we took Grandpaw to the vet for his annual checkup, which went really well. The vet said his teeth, weight, and coat were perfect. For those of you who don’t know, we adopted Grandpaw three years ago when he was two years old, at which time he already had arthritis and was on the heavier side, presumably from limited mobility. Shortly after we adopted him, he also developed asthma. Between the arthritis and asthma, it’s always reassuring to hear that he’s in relatively good health.
In the middle of the day, I decided to tackle a long overdue housekeeping task – fertilizing my plants. I absolutely love houseplants, but I am absolutely rubbish at caring for them. I think I’ve topped off the soil on a couple of my plants a handful of times over the years, and added fertilizer to one maybe once (the bag says I’m supposed to fertilize them once every other month!). That probably explains why so many of my houseplants have died over the years, but I’m going to try and be better at keeping them healthy!
Thursday night, we had tickets to see Westlife at MGM Music Hall in Fenway! It was such a surreal experience. The earliest memory I have of listening to Westlife is waiting for their song “Swear It Again” to come on the radio as a kid so I could record it on my homemade mixed cassette tape, which I think I still have somewhere! Since they didn’t have as much exposure in the US, I wasn’t able to listen to them as much as I would have liked as a kid, but as the internet started to make things more accessible and music became more portable, I was able to listen to them more heavily in middle/high school, and into my adult years.
This concert was their first ever show in the US, and I was beyond thrilled when I heard that it was going to be in my home state, and bought the tickets as soon as they were available. It truly was surreal to be in the same room with them after decades of listening to their music and only being able to see them on YouTube. I nearly cried when they came on stage, and nearly cried when they walked off for the last time. They put on a phenomenal show, and I hope that they’ll have the chance to come to the US again.
After a week of excitement, we had a slow day on Friday and Saturday. We went grocery shopping, did some laundry, filed our taxes, and otherwise just lounged around the house. Next week it’s back to work for both of us, so life will be slightly less exciting, but I’ll be reminiscing about our vacation here on the blog for the next few weeks.
