a week in the life | worsening eyesight, home goods haul, food and work

How good are you about seeing your doctor for annual checkups? If nothing’s wrong, do you still feel the need to go? I’m pretty rubbish about it, to be honest. The only appointment I’ve ever stayed on top of is my eye exam, and that’s because I’m blind as a bat, and it’s hard to ignore my eyesight becoming blurry again when that time of year comes around.

Two weekends ago, I had my first appointment with a new eye doctor. I did some tests with her staff, then waited for the doctor to come in. When the doctor came in, she sat down, looked at my papers, and said “now THAT’S a prescription!” At the end of the appointment, I left with an updated prescription in hand for -9.00 contacts and -10.50 glasses, and was told to come back in a couple weeks to pick up the trial contacts they were going to order me.

So last Saturday, one of our errands was to pick up my trial contacts that had come in. After picking up the contacts, we stopped by a handmade artisan shop and did a little perusing. I ended up making a bit of a dent in my credit card with this haul – a coffee candle for my office, a stuffed dumpling for our TV console (not handmade), a crocheted garlic and onion for our kitchen, and a habanero and mango jelly. After that, we stopped by the grocery store to do our weekly shopping, and then headed home.

On Sunday, we had a few of my husband’s friends over. We ordered a few pizzas, and just hung out, talking and playing board games.

Monday through Friday was the usual daily grind. I started a new job towards the end of last year, and in some ways, it’s the most challenging of the jobs I’ve had, in a good way. The knowledge and skills I’m gaining from this job are gratifying, but there’s a lot to learn and acclimate to, which can be daunting at the same time.

After work on Thursday, I was watching something on my computer, saw someone eating sushi, and decided it was going to be a takeout night. We ordered a veggie tempura appetizer, a couple sushi rolls, and a basil stir fry with noodles.
