Coupons are enabling. They enable you to be bad and buy things you otherwise would not buy. For those of you who are from the states and who shop at CVS, I’m specifically referring to the enabling power of Extra Bucks.
I’ve been eyeing these sleek and slim black eye makeup brushes as well as a bamboo brush set at CVS for quite some time. A couple weeks ago, I had a $5 Extra Bucks coupon begging to be used before its expiration date. So I marched into a CVS, grabbed a Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder and this set of brushes among other oddities, surrendered my beloved Extra Bucks, and went on my merry way.
Aren’t they so sleek and pretty? I love how each brush has its purpose printed on the side. The brushes feel sturdy, the bristles soft, and they serve their respective purposes well.
I actually purchased these with the intention of using the crease, eyeliner, and smudger as eye makeup brushes, and the eyeshadow brush as a powder brush to pat powder on top of under-eye concealer (see my concealer review here and my powder review here). However, as I mentioned in my review of the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, patting the powder on top of my under-eye Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer actually seemed to cause more creasing. So I suppose now I’ll be using all the brushes as eye makeup brushes after all.
Included in the set is a handy storage pouch with little slots inside for each brush. I think this may be for travel purposes, but I use it for every day storage to keep all the eye makeup brushes together and separate from my foundation, blush, and bronzer brushes.
Would I recommend these brushes? Yes. They look sleek, elegant, and expensive, although they retail for only about $13. I’m not a makeup guru, so I can’t speak as to how these compare to high-end brushes, but for playing around with basic makeup, these get the job done.
