Review: Nine West Argyle Booties in Purple Suede

Every fall/winter season, I have to have one pair of black boots and a pair of brown boots as the foundation of my shoe wardrobe.  This year, I wanted to add a punch of color to my cold weather footwear.  I had my antenna up, scouring the internet for the right pair of boots in a deep, jewel-toned, autumnal color.

The first pair of booties I found that made me swoon were the Aquazzura Almaty Booties.

The rich, dark, forest green shade with the soft velvet upper and detailed embroidery were simply beautiful.  Not wanting to jump the gun and purchase the first pair that caught my eye, I pinned the booties to my pinterest wishlist and continued to search.  While I was perusing Nordstrom, as I always do, I came across the Nine West Argyle Booties.

The deep, saturated purple shade of the booties with the velvety patterned upper reminded me so much of the Aquazzura booties.  As it was going to be my first pair of statement ankle boots, I decided to opt for the less expensive Nine West Argyle Booties first.

First impressions…the color and cut of the boot is as beautiful in person as it is in pictures.  The sculpted block heel makes the 4″ heel super easy to walk in.  The boot shaft is just high enough to overlap the hem of your pants and keep your skin from awkwardly peeping out between the bottom of the pants and the top of the shoe.

I would consider these boots to run true to size, although they are a snug fit.  I ordered these shoes in three sizes – my usual size 4, 4.5, and 5.  Although the 4 felt snug, my foot kept sliding forward with the 4.5 and 5, and actually hurt because my toes kept getting squished when my foot slid forward.  The snugness of the size 4 helped to keep my foot in place.

As for the 4″ heel, the block heel makes it more tolerable to walk in, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend it for a night out if you’ve been on your feet all day.  I wore these at the end of the day after spending 10 hours on my feet at work and my ankles ached from the arch.

I’ve been styling these boots with skinny black pants and this chunky gray sweater or with one of my many cream colored sweaters.  These statement heeled boots are the perfect way to elevate my casual outfits.
