Carnival Cruise to the Bahamas: Conch Fritters and Shorty Got Low, Low, Low, Low

In an attempt to wrap up the recap of my cruise in the Bahamas, I’m going to smush the last 3 days into one post.  The second place we docked at was at Nassau, a city on the island of New Providence..apparently.  My geography – not so great.  Since this was the largest of the three places that we’d be docking at, we decided to explore and shop rather than hit the beach. 

Apparently, we were sharing this port with 4 other ships that day.  This is the Disney ship and…some other one.

So we’re walking along, and we see this long line of people leading up to a tiny window in the wall of a building.  It’s like a fast food take-out type of place.  No tables, no seating area – just order at the window, take a number, and they pass your food to you through the window when it’s done.  My sister’s rule when traveling: eat at places with long lines, long lines mean the food’s good.  So we jumped in line, ordered conch fritters (picture below) and stood by the side of the road eating and watching the traffic go by – traffic that included cars, motorbikes, and horses!

We went to dinner at the Wind Star restaurant again that night, where the waiters danced to Flo Rida’s “Get Low” and another song that I’m blanking on.  The whole time all I could think of was Ellen Degeneres 😉

Any guesses as to what this animal is?  I saw it at the time, but now I’m not seeing it..

The last island we stopped at was a teensy tiny little island with barely anything to do, to be honest.  It consisted mainly of outdoor shops of mostly handmade items.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of this island, since there was a sign prohibiting picture-taking around the shops.  We basically browsed around, bought a Bahamian coconut to drink/eat, and then returned to the ship. 

It was extremely windy and chilly that day for some reason.  (It’s the Bahamas.  Shouldn’t it be warm all the time?)  But that didn’t stop us from heading up to the deck to hang out, listen to music, and enjoy some fresh air.

Oh how I’ll miss the dessert section of the lunch and dinner buffet!  I think I ate enough sweets to get myself a new cavity.  And I learned that key lime pie and my taste buds are not pals.

My mother loved the dancing entertainment so much at the Wind Star restaurant that we decided to dine there for the third night in a row.  The last one was particularly unique: the staff penned an original farewell song, which the waiters sang and swayed to as we waited for our food to arrive.

And finally, the last day was just the debarkation process, the bus ride to the airport, and the flight back home.  View from our bus:
