What is it about zoos that never gets old? Aquariums too. I revisited the Museum of Science several years ago, and discovered that the exhibits and interactive experiments were a lot more amusing as a 7 year old on a class field trip than as a 20-something year old adult. I’ve also visited the JFK Library and Museum a handful of times. I was fascinated by the history the first time around, but was less and less intrigued with every trip. But animals at the zoo? Nope, never gets old.
My husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary on July 1st. We normally celebrate with a nice dinner out, but it being our 5 year anniversary, we thought it might be fun to do something a little different this year. We had visited the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Rhode Island several years ago when we were still dating, and decided we wanted to take a little road trip back there for our anniversary date.
The Food
We grabbed lunch at the zoo (I believe it was at Tuskers Cafe), since we got there in the early afternoon and were pretty hungry by that time. I got a hot dog and fries, my husband got a burger and fries, and we got a Gatorade to share. It was a simple lunch, but it REALLY hit the spot. There were more fries than I could finish, so we asked for a paper bag to carry the leftovers in. They gave us a GIANT paper bag and it was a bit comical just dumping a couple handfuls of fries in there.
(They have a petting zoo there, but outside food and drinks aren’t allowed. So if you plan on visiting the petting zoo, make sure you finish your lunch!)
The Outfit
As with every day since summer started, it was boiling hot out that day. I wore an old cherry print mini dress from Urban Outfitters with white Bay Slide Sandals from Sam Edelman (see my review here). The Bay Slide Sandals are normally pretty comfortable for every day wear, but after walking around for a few hours, my feet were probably a little swollen from the heat and the sandals did rub my toes ever so slightly.
The Animals
I actually wasn’t planning on taking any pictures that day since this wasn’t my first time there, and you only need so many pictures of a camel on your phone, but the animals were so cute I couldn’t help myself. So I missed the animals we saw when we first arrived, but I wanted to share the pictures that I did end up taking:
And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed seeing my pictures from the Roger Williams Park Zoo! Do you still enjoy going to the zoo? What’s your favorite exhibit to see?
