Mango Petite Review

Ironically, as a petite woman, I often have better luck finding clothes that fit in stores that don’t offer petite sizing than stores that do. That being said, I’m a little apprehensive when I first venture into a store that doesn’t carry petite sizing, especially if there aren’t any reviews. I recently made a couple purchases at Mango, which has clothing for women (regular sizing only), men, teens and kids. I thought it might be helpful to do a petite review, as the pieces I bought were from the regular women’s section and the teen section. So let’s get into it!

Tropical Shirt Dress

I’ve been loving pinks and greens this spring and summer, so this dress immediately caught my eye. I’m just under 4’11” and 92 lbs, and a women’s size 0 fit perfectly. The waist was just right for my 24″ waist, and the length was about mid-thigh. I’m embarrassed to say how long it took me to notice there was a side zipper on this dress. There are button fastenings from top to bottom, but there’s a knotted belt at the waist that cannot be untied. Before I noticed the zipper, it baffled my mind how someone could be small enough to squeeze past the belt if you couldn’t undo it.

Hoops Crochet Dress

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of me wearing this dress, because I think I was sent one with a faulty button, and I couldn’t undo it to try it on. The pictures from Mango’s website show a simple loop on the front hoop that’s supposed to go around the button on the back hoop. On my dress, it looked like the button was on the front hoop, and the loop was on the back hoop. It didn’t look like there was any opening for the button to go through because the threads were so tightly looped around the base of the button.

Even though I didn’t get to try the dress on, I usually have a good sense of whether something will fit me by looking at it. I purchased this dress in women’s size 0, and it looked surprisingly small. I think it would have been very figure hugging, and possibly not forgiving on the stomach after a full meal. The length probably would have been petite-friendly, maybe the same if not slightly shorter than the Tropical Shirt Dress.

Culotte Cropped Jeans

The last piece I picked up was a pair of culotte jeans from the teen’s section. Based on their size chart, I bought size XXS, as I’m just under 59″ tall with a 24″ waist (but I can wear 23″-24″ depending on the brand). My first impression was that the wide-leg style and length were exactly what I was looking for, and the material was nice and stretchy.

As I tried it on again and again, I started to notice more and more imperfections. The jeans crease quite a bit around the top of my thigh, which is a sign that the jeans are probably too snug. I initially thought the waist was a perfect fit, but I realized it was actually probably too small, and I just didn’t notice because the material was stretchy and I was able to zip it up. From the side, you can see how my stomach bulges out, which also indicates that it’s not a great fit.

Even though I ended up realizing the jeans were too small for me, I wouldn’t necessarily say they run small. Like with all clothes from the youth section, they’re just not cut for adults who would have more curves and hips.

I hope you enjoyed this Mango petite review! Have you ever tried clothes from Mango, or clothes from the kids’ section? What was your experience?

  1. Your stomach isn’t bulging lol. I’m glad I found your blog . I’m almost as tall as you but I think my feet are about one size larger than yours. Which makes it a bit easier to find shoes that fit.

    1. I’m so glad you found my blog! It’s always lovely to meet a fellow petite! Finding size US 4 shoes can definitely be a challenge sometimes. Luckily, over the years I’ve discovered more and more places that carry small sizes, which I try to share here on the blog. I hope you continue to enjoy the posts!
