How to Wear Crop Tops Without Showing Your Stomach

It’s officially summer according to Google, but I’m still waiting for my weather app to get the memo. We haven’t had a pure sunny day in weeks! At best, we’ve had a few partly cloudy days with the sun disappearing by lunch time. The days are more consistently warm, but with all the rain we’ve been getting, I often find myself back in leggings and ankle rain boots, which isn’t the most comfortable when it’s warm and muggy out.

I can’t wait for some warm, sunny days so I can ditch the leggings and rain boots for my summer wardrobe. I recently picked up some new pieces in fresh spring/summer colors that I’m excited to style and wear. The only thing is – they’re all crop tops. As a petite woman (I’m just under 4’11”), crop tops are great because they give the illusion of longer legs. However, at 31 years old, I’m not exactly keen on exposing my entire midsection. So today I wanted to share some tips and outfit ideas for how to wear crop tops without showing your stomach.

High-Waist Bottoms

The easiest way to offset the shrunken length of a crop top is to wear it with anything that has a high waist. Here, I paired my crop top with high-waist, wide-leg trousers and flat sandals for a smart casual look. You could also pair it with high-waist jeans, skirts, or shorts for an even more casual look.

As I get older, I’m less drawn to outfits that are skintight from head to toe. A lot of crop tops I see on the market are a fitted style. To balance it out, I like to pair them with something that also has some volume on the bottom (e.g. mom jeans, wide-leg jeans/pants, flared skirts).

Longer Crop Tops

Another option is to look for crop tops that are a little longer in length. Some crop tops end right under the bust, but some come down a little bit further. The skirt I’m wearing here was a hand-me-down skirt that sits at my natural waist, not my high waist. But since the crop top is on the longer side, it was just long enough to meet the skirt and cover my stomach.

Fun fact: this crop top is actually a sports top, but when I saw the beautiful fuchsia shade, I immediately knew I wanted to pair it with my navy blue skirt and pink shoes.

Just a Little Midriff

While I’m not keen on baring my entire stomach, I don’t mind a sliver of midriff. If you’re comfortable with this look, you could opt for a shorter crop top, paired with high-waist bottoms. This knit crop top doesn’t come down as far as the two pink crop tops above. I paired it with high-waist, paperbag shorts to cover most of my stomach, and balance out the fitted top.

I hope you enjoyed these tips and outfit ideas for how to wear crop tops without showing your stomach!
