Products That Were Not Worth the Hype/Money

Sephora Products Not Worth the Hype: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask, Briogeo Deep Conditioning Mask and Scalp Revival

YouTube made me do it – this can be a painful thing when “it” means buying expensive products from Sephora. What’s even more painful is when those products don’t live up to your expectations. Today, I wanted to share some products that I purchased after seeing YouTubers rave about them, only to find that the products were not worth the hype or money.

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser ($38)

So many people raved about the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser as their go-to face cleanser. People would compare it to other face cleansers, and the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser would always win. They said it was gentle, removed everything, and didn’t dry out their skin. I did find this cleanser gentle, but no gentler than drugstore cleansers I’ve used. A couple times, I came out from the shower with visible traces of eye makeup left on my face. As for dry skin, I find that my face will feel taut post-shower regardless of which cleanser I use.

Fresh Umbrian Clay Mask ($58)

Similarly, people raved about the Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask. It paled in comparison to other masks, really did the job, and didn’t dry out the face. After multiple uses, my skin didn’t look any different, and it DEFINITELY left my face SUPER DRY. I don’t have sensitive skin, but my skin was flaking and peeling from the dryness.

Glossier You Perfume ($60)

I love Glossier products. (See my review of their Skin Tint and Stretch Concealer here). So naturally, I wanted to try the perfume everyone and their sister was talking about – Glossier You. It’s supposed to smell like you because it adapts to you, so it smells different on everyone. People say it smells unique and everyone will love it. As someone who finds most perfumes too strong, and gets headaches from strong scents, I didn’t find this perfume any different. The scent was overpowering, and smelled like a typical perfume – not fresh and light as reviews said.

Briogeo Deep Conditioning Mask and Scalp Revival ($36, $42)

These products were not hyped up, and were actually a birthday gift from Sephora. I figured I’d still mention them because they’re also expensive products that didn’t have earth-shattering effects for me. The scalp revival scrub shampoo has a gritty texture, which was different and interesting. But it doesn’t lather, so the typical amount I would use doesn’t cover as much surface area. The grittiness doesn’t wash out well, so I found bits in my hair post-shower. The mask smells minty, which was pleasant. But I just didn’t feel that it accomplished anything. My hair felt the same before and after.

I hope you found this review of products that weren’t worth the hype helpful! These products may have worked well for some, and may work for you, just not for me. The intent of this review is to provide my personal experience, so you can hear different experiences and make the best decision for you. Give this post a like down below if you found this helpful!
